Arthritis is a chronic joint disease that affects many people
around the world and normally affects the old people due to degenerative
changes that take place in their body. However, young people also suffer from
this disease. The main three types of arthritis are
gout, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Gout occurs when there is uric acid accumulation in the
knees, wrist and toes, that can be extremely painful. Osteoarthritis occurs
when the cartilage casing of the bones deteriorates causing a friction. This
leads to joint pain and swelling as the cartilage further wears off and the hands,
hips, knee and spine are generally affected by osteoarthritis. The reason of rheumatoid
arthritis is unknown, but it is believed that certain infections or
environmental factors might trigger the immune system to attack the body’s own
cells that lead to inflammation in the joints.
Besides age, which is one of the main causes, obesity can be
another cause as the weight of an overweight person falls on the joints. Lifestyle and food habits are other causes
that can also be a risk factor.
Despite huge efforts put in by medical scientists, there is
no known allopathic medicine for stopping arthritis. Having a balanced diet is
very important as well as doing the right exercises, yoga and losing weight
which will help in reducing the stress on the joints. Herbal medicines can help
in overcoming the ailment although it takes time to show its effect. Herbs have
been used since time immemorial for overcoming rheumatism and arthritis. It has
anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce swelling and pain associated
with arthritis.
